Looe and South East Cornwall Beaches

Kingsand Beach

Kingsand beach is popular for swimming and boating. The beach is a mixture of sand and shingle with rock pools. It is accessed via a small slope and steps. Facilities including toilets, cafes and shops are available in Kingsand village. Kingsand beach is dog friendly with dogs allowed on the beach all year round. Large parking area.

Cawsand Beach

A sand and shingle beach with a slipway. Facilities including toilets, cafes and shops are available in Cawsand village.

Cawsand Beach has a dog ban from 1st July to 31st August between 10am and 6pm and is dog friendly outside these hours and between 1st September and 30th June.

Large parking area.

Downderry

Downderry Beach

To the west the beach stretches to Seaton, one mile away along the sand. It is possible to walk along the beach to Seaton at low tide but you should consult a tide table first to make sure you can get there without getting cut off between the rocky outcrops by a rising tide.

Eastern Beaches at Downderry

Access to the eastern end of the beach is more difficult. The eastern end of the beach is naturally secluded. There are several small bays with the second and third ones a favourite with naturists. Take care when accessing these bays along the beach as it is possible to get cut off by the tide.

Coldeadon Beach

Beyond Bass Rock is another 1km (0.5 mile) of beach below the imposing Battern Cliffs known as Coldeadon Beach. The first part of this beach is known as 'The Pit'. At low water Coldeadon and Skerrish beaches extend to 1.5kms (0.9 miles) but access can be difficult. You can only access 'The Pit' via the path near the school at low water. To be able to access it at any stage of the tide you will need to use a steep cliff path from the B3247 road along the cliff top. Follow the footpath across fields to reach the path which descends the cliff.

Please consider the weather conditions before swimming and only swim on a rising tide.

Even at high water, there is usually a strip of beach available except at Coldeadon Point.

At the end of Coldeadon Beach is Coldeadon Point and beyond this headland is Skerrish Beach

Skerrish Beach

Skerrish Beach extends to around 600m and is sometimes known as 'St German's Hut Beach' because of the old Victorian lodge which was located on the cliffs here. Only the ruins remain today. At the end of Skerrish Beach is 'The Brawn' otherwise known as 'Shag Rock' after the seabirds who spend much of their time sitting on it drying their wings after diving in the sea for fish. You can reach Skerrish Beach by using the steep cliff path mentioned earlier.

All the beaches at Downderry are dog friendly with dogs allowed all year round. There is no lifeguard cover. There is rescue equipment.

Kingsand and Cawsand

Looe

Looe has two beaches very close to the town, one in East Looe and one in West Looe and there are two more beaches within easy reach of the town to the east.

East Looe Beach

East Looe beach is sandy and popular with families. Facilities include: car parking at East and West Looe; toilets close to the beach; shops and refreshments nearby in the town.

There is an all year dog ban with dogs not allowed on the beach at any time of the year.
Hannafore Beach

Hannafore beach is rocky with some areas of sand and pebbles. Car parking on the road at Hannafore Point or during busy times at the large car park at West Looe or one of the smaller car parks in East Looe. Facilities include toilets and a cafe.

Hannafore beach is dog friendly with dogs allowed on the beach all year round.
Plaidy Beach

Plaidy beach is sandy with rock pools. There is no car park here - the nearest car parks are at Millendreath and Looe. There are no toilets at Plaidy Beach -the nearest toilets are at Looe. To get to Plaidy Beach you need to walk from Looe or Millendreath with Millendreath being closer but the coastal walk can be quite challenging as it is steep in places.

Plaidy Beach is dog friendly with dogs allowed on the beach all year round.
Millendreath Beach

A sandy beach with rockpools. Car parking but no toilets. No lifeguard service. Dogs are banned, not allowed on the beach at any time of year.

Polperro

Polperro is primarily a fishing village with a working harbour but it has a small sandy beach just outside the harbour wall.

Facilities including car parking, toilets and shops are in the village.
There is no lifeguard service but rescue equipment is available at the beach.

Polperro beach is dog friendly with dogs allowed all year round.

Portwrinkle

Portwrinkle has two main beaches and nearby smaller beaches. Finnygook Beach, the second and more easterly of the main beaches is sandy.

At low tide, there are plenty of rock pools to explore with their variety of sea life.

Finnygook is south facing, sandy, backed by cliffs. The most popular of Portwrinkle's beaches it stands on its eastern side. This is a great beach for experienced surfers and is very popular with families. It is a few minutes walk from the car park.

Facilities include car parking and toilets. Heed the warnings given on site regarding swimming and the cliffs.

Finny Gook Beach is dog friendly all year round, no restrictions but please keep dogs under control and clear up after dog.

Hoodny Cove and Harbour Beach

The western beach adjacent to the quay and harbour is of shingle

Hoodny Cove and Harbour Beach have a dog ban in operation from Easter Sunday - 30th September inclusive. All hours (24/7)

There is no lifeguard service at any of Portwrinkle's beaches but rescue equipment is available.

Access to the beaches is by steep paths and is limited at high tide.

Britain Cove

A secluded sandy beach which is small at high tide.

Britain Cove is dog friendly with dogs allowed all year round.

There are two small car parks on the cliffs above the two main beaches. Toilet facilities are available.

Seaton

Seaton Beach is a large beach of sand and shingle with the River Seaton crossing its western side.

Very popular with families and dog owners.

At low water you can walk along the beach to Downderry.

Seaton Beach is dog friendly with dogs allowed all year round.

Car parking near the beach with level access.

Facilities include a cafe, pub and toilets.

There is no lifeguard service.

Talland

Talland Bay has two beaches.

Talland Sands

A sand and shingle beach with many rock pools. Sheltered bathing. Easily accessible with level access to the beach.

Rotterdam Beach

Sand and shingle beach with rock pools and offering sheltered bathing, just to the east of Talland Sands. Accessed by steps.

Facilities include car parking, toilets, shop. There is no lifeguard service but rescue equipment is available.

Both beaches are dog friendly with dogs allowed all year round.
