The Newquay - Padstow area, which includes part of Cornwall's north coast and its hinterland, is a place of breathtaking scenery.
With magnificent coastal views over Bedruthan Steps, the beautiful estuary of the River Camel at Padstow, with its famous walking and cycle trail, Newquay with its fine beaches and excellent surfing facilities, Perranporth with one of the longest beaches in Cornwall, stretching to three miles of golden sand backed by the important sand dune system of Penhale Sands, Crantock with its fine beach, Holywell Bay, Porth Joke, known locally as Polly Joke and picturesque inland towns and villages such as St Newlyn East, St Mawgan, Cubert, St Merryn and St Endellion, the Newquay - Padstow area offers something for everyone.
Surfing conditions along this part of the north coast are excellent and Newquay, Perranporth, Constantine Bay, Polzeath and Watergate Bay regularly host surfing competions of national and international importance.
Sir John Betjemen, former Poet Laureate, is associated with this area of Cornwall and is buried at the beautiful church of St Enodoc, near Trebetherick. The church had a habit of disappearing into the sand dunes which surround it and has had to dug out a number of times. It was for this reason that Betjemen gave the church the affectionate title of "sinking Neddy".
